Atlas legal

Terms of Service

The conditions for using Atlas maps, account services, shared content, and the mobile app.

Effective and last updated:

1. Using Atlas

These Terms of Service govern your use of the Atlas Trail Maps website, mobile app, account services, and share links (together, "Atlas"). In these terms, "we," "us," and "our" refer to the provider of Atlas Trail Maps. By using Atlas, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, stop using the service.

You must be able to enter into this agreement under applicable law. If you are not old enough to do so independently, a parent or legal guardian must authorize your use. Atlas is not directed to children under 13. If you use Atlas for an organization, you must have authority to act for it.

Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle information, including practices specific to the mobile app.

2. Accounts and access

Some features require an account. Provide accurate account information, protect your credentials, and use only accounts you are authorized to access. You are responsible for activity you authorize through your account. Contact us if you suspect unauthorized access.

Local or guest functionality may be available without an active connection or account, but cloud sync and other online services require network access and authentication. Feature availability can vary by platform, app version, permissions, and provider availability.

3. Outdoor safety and map limitations

Atlas is a planning and reference tool. It is not an emergency service, rescue system, or guarantee of a safe or accessible route. Do not rely on Atlas as your only navigation or safety resource. Carry appropriate equipment and backup navigation, check current conditions, and exercise independent judgment.

Maps, coordinates, boundaries, trail geometry, routing, weather, water data, and fishing estimates may be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, or unavailable. A line on a map does not establish public access, permission to enter land, a maintained trail, safe water, or a legal fishing opportunity. Verify access restrictions, closures, permits, fishing regulations, weather, and conditions with the relevant authority.

You are responsible for complying with applicable laws, respecting property and protected areas, and making decisions appropriate to your abilities and conditions. Avoid using your device in a way that distracts from driving, boating, or other activities requiring attention.

4. Mobile app terms

Permissions and recording

Mobile features depend on the permissions you grant, including location, background location, camera, and photo-library access. You control permissions through your device settings. Background recording can use battery and storage, and your operating system may interrupt or limit it. Recording completeness and GPS accuracy are not guaranteed.

Offline maps, local files, and synchronization

Download and verify the maps and content you need before leaving network coverage. Not all sources support offline use, and downloads can fail or become outdated. Storage limits, device changes, uninstalling the app, or operating-system behavior can remove local files. Keep your own copies of important content using available export tools.

Offline field changes may remain on your device until synchronization succeeds. Signing out does not necessarily erase local data. Local field-photo files are not uploaded by the current field-data sync feature. Do not assume that every local file is backed up or accessible from another device.

Updates and device requirements

Atlas may receive app-store releases and compatible updates through Expo's update service. Updates may change features or supported devices. Internet access, mobile-data charges, and sufficient battery and storage are your responsibility. See the mobile privacy section for update requests and diagnostics.

Apple App Store license

For copies obtained through the Apple App Store, Apple's Standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement applies unless a separate custom license is presented through the store. These service terms supplement that license and do not replace or limit rights it provides. Atlas's provider, rather than Apple, operates Atlas and handles support for its services.

5. Your content and sharing

You retain ownership of the content you create or upload. You grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to store, process, transmit, and display that content as needed to provide Atlas and carry out your instructions, including synchronization and sharing. You must have the rights and permissions needed for the content you provide.

When you create a share link, you authorize Atlas to host and display the included snapshot to people with that link. Shared content can include precise locations and personal notes. Review it before sharing. Recipients may save or redistribute copies, and disabling a link cannot remove copies already obtained.

Do not share private information about another person without appropriate permission, infringing content, or content that violates law or these terms. Report content or share-link concerns to tos@digivision.dev.

6. Acceptable use and intellectual property

Subject to these terms and applicable source licenses, you may use Atlas for its intended mapping and field-planning features. Atlas software, branding, and service materials belong to their respective owners. Open-source components and third-party map data remain governed by their own licenses.

  • Do not access other people's accounts or private content without authorization.
  • Do not interfere with the service, distribute malware, bypass access controls or rate limits, or exploit the service to harm others.
  • Do not scrape, resell, or redistribute licensed map data in violation of provider terms.
  • Do not use Atlas for unlawful activity, harassment, infringement, or unauthorized surveillance.

These restrictions do not limit rights that applicable law or an open-source license expressly grants you.

7. Third-party data and services

Atlas displays and connects to third-party maps, imagery, terrain, trails, geocoding, routing, weather, and other information. The relevant provider's attribution, license, usage limits, and terms apply. Offline access or export from Atlas does not grant additional rights to a provider's data.

Third-party services and external links are outside our control. We do not guarantee their accuracy, availability, security, or suitability. Provider changes may affect Atlas features, and information should be verified with authoritative sources before you rely on it.

8. Availability, suspension, and ending use

We may maintain, update, change, or discontinue features and may restrict access to address misuse, security risks, legal requirements, or violations of these terms. We will provide notice when reasonably practicable or legally required. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access or permanent availability of any map source or feature.

You may stop using Atlas at any time. To request account and associated data deletion, contact privacy@digivision.dev. The retention and deletion section explains how local files, backups, and shared copies are treated. Keep copies of information you need before ending use.

9. Disclaimers and liability

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Atlas is provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of uninterrupted operation, accuracy, fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, or non-infringement. We do not warrant that maps, recommendations, or recorded data will meet your needs or be error-free.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential losses arising from use of Atlas, including lost data, lost profits, interrupted access, or reliance on inaccurate third-party information.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, or removes mandatory consumer rights, remedies, or warranties available where you live.

10. Changes, questions, and disputes

We may update these terms and will show the revised date on this page. We will give additional notice of material changes when required. If you disagree with revised terms, stop using Atlas. Any acceptance or consent required by law will be handled separately.

If a provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue to apply to the extent permitted by law. These terms do not restrict mandatory protections or access to courts and regulators available under applicable law.
